Join the Pearsons as we build a better community for us all.
Don Pearson, president of Pearson Capital, Inc., has been a South Shore resident for more than 15 years. He is an active community member through his continuing participation in the local Chambers of Commerce in South Shore and Greater Riverview, having served two terms as President of the former Apollo Beach Chamber as well as a board member for more than seven years.
In 2005, Don initiated the local community toy collection for the national Marine Toys for Tots program. What started out as 25 boxes has now grown, this year, to more than 115 boxes (and 82 bicycles plus $5,000 in cash!) placed in our community through local businesses, mobile home parks, and neighborhood churches as well as individual participants.
The culmination of this drive is the collection party, sponsored by Pearson Capital, Inc., where all the filled boxes are returned. The festivities, including food and drink, entertainment, and appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus as well as active-duty Marines are open to the public for an admission fee of one new, unwrapped toy.
It has become one of the largest collection drives in all of Hillsborough County. The toys collected have insured that more than 500 local families are able to celebrate a joyous Christmas that might have otherwise had nothing under the tree for their children due to their economic hardships. Any remaining toys are distributed throughout the county to those in need.
Besides the Toys for Tots program, Don Pearson, a Registered Investment Advisor, has generously opened and funded management accounts for the Ruskin VFW Post 6287, R.A.V.E. Boating Expeditions, Hand to Hope, Inc., Visions of Hope, and several area churches. In addition, Don, in partnership with The Alley, has provided bowling parties for children under care at the Mary and Martha House, a women’s shelter, and Christ Community Church, outreach program for children undergoing cancer treatments. Other charities benefiting from Don’s generosity have been the Athena House as well as Beanie’s Restaurant’s Thanksgiving “Big Give” and Christmas tree projects.
